At the Foot of the Mountians
« Thread Started on Jan 15, 2005, 8:18pm »

Matthias and Ian and their father had a tradtion. Well they had until Bethany was born. The very first day after the snow melted, if it stayed nice outside, all three of them would go to the Cathyr Mountains with the goats and the sheep. It usually took then about a week, and sometimes it was very dangerous, but after time they got used to the route, and always went prepared for anything.

This year thier father had decided to stay home and help their mother, he also decided that Matthias was old enough to start taking Ian on trips too. Matthias would never miss a chance to travel like this. He only left the farm twice a year, once, to go to Veldorn and help his father with supplies, and the other time to go here.

So they had arrived. Ian sat on a rock playing his newly-crafted flute, Matthias was just sharpening his carving knife, and the sheep and goats were scrambling around like freedom-crazed idiots.

Ranewhen sat, perched high abouve the boys and their animals. The lack of game in and around Estagund had driven her to try new places to hunt. She had so far been unsucsessful.

Ranewhen watched them, amused. And envyed them. They seemed to have such little cares. There was not much she could do at the moment, she was tired, so she just sat and listened to the pretty music the boy was playing.

"Her roses are fading now
She keeps her pride somehow
That's all she has protecting her from pain

And as the years go by
She will grow old and die
The roses in her garden fade away
Not one left for her grave
Not a rose for Emily..."

Matthias felt someone was watching them. He chose not to look for the person, but keep alert just in case. They always had to be prepared for anything on thse trips.

From high on the mountain, Arienne looked down, just barely able to discern a few figures below. They looked like tiny little ants from where she stood. She turned to Tyra, her dragon friend. What's down there? she asked silently.

Nothin' much...just a couple people...some idiot sheep. I would hunt them, but for two things. One, I'm really not that hungry right now, and two, they probably belong to the boy.

Yes...best leave the sheep alone. She continued attempting to discern the figures, but just got to the point where she could make out what the figures were.

Ranewhen sat on her rock, with not much else to do, so she started to weave her hair into a long briad down her back. It would help her hunting anyways, she would be able to see properly.

She turned up at the black dragon, then looked back down at the figures. I'm gonna go on down and visit with some people....not that I don't enjoy talking to you. I just feel I'm gonna forget how to speak out loud one of these day...

Go right ahead...I'm feeling sleepy anyway...

She smiled, then began her climb back down the mountain.

Matthias looked up to the mountains, "Hello?" he called, his voice echoed loudly.
Ian gave him a strange look, but kept piping.

Ari finished her way down the mountain. "Hello. I'm Arienne, or Ari." She watched the sheep, grinning at the memory of Tyra's last comment of them.

Ian looked up, frowning.
Matthias smiled, and wave slightly.
"Hullo, I'm Matthias."
Ian crossed his arms, "One would think this mountain is big enough that we wouldn't have to deal with others,"he was still in a bad mood that his father had not come with them.
"Shhhush."
"Sorry. I'm Ian," he muttered sulkily.

She looked at Ian. "Pleased to meet you. If you're really going to be that anti-social, you could go up with Tyra. Chances are she wouldn't talk to you, anyway. She has a way of making it known when someone's attitude displeases her." She said it quite bluntly, leaving out the 'small' detail of the fact that Tyra was a dragon.

Ian gave her a hard look. What she said didn't really make sense. First of all, why would he go bother someone else if he wanted to be anti-social? Moreover if that person he was bothering was anti-social herself?

Matthias just smiled slightly, then began to pick some burrs from a small lambs wool.

She smiled slightly. Sensing the small bit of confusion left, she said, "Never said you had to say anything to her. You two could go and be anti social together..." She knew the logic she was using was somewhat beyond him, and quit trying to explain it, still smiling.

Ian gave her a strange look, then began to chase after a sheep that had grabbed a bag from beside him.

"What brings you out to the mountain Ms. Arianne?"
Matthias asked, pushing his hair out of his face.

In all his visits he had never seen any other visitors here.
Matthias tossed the prickly burrs he had taken over to some rocks.

"I come here quite often, actually. You see, Tyra lives up in these mountains..." she said, finding great amusement in knowing they still didn't know that Tyra was a dragon.
